The Danish government is close to exhausting its current rearmament and security funding framework.

9 bn DKK remains after DKK 365.1 bn has been spent or committed to strengthening the Danish armed forces over the 2024–2033 period.

In a written response to Ritzau, the Ministry of Defence said:

- Of the total framework for enhancing defence and security, the government and the parties to the defence agreement have so far allocated approximately 356 bn.

The rearmament programme was launched in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

This is not the first time the funding envelope has approached depletion; it has previously been replenished through additional political agreements.

Further allocations are expected under the government’s economic plan through to 2035, which is due to be presented shortly.

In addition, civilian assistance since the invasion amounts to 7bn, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
